On June 4th, in celebration of World Environment Day, the Cameroon Entrepreneurs Network - ECOPRENEURS 237 - participated in a conference organized by the Center for Communication and Sustainable Development for All (CECOSDA).
The ECOPRENEURS 237 Network stood out through its active participation in the conference held to mark World Environment Day, organized by CECOSDA, with the theme "Youth and Green Entrepreneurship in Cameroon: Recycling and Clean Energy Sector."
As the speaker, the network chose Monsieur Onana, the president of the Women in Development movement. In his opening remarks, he reminded everyone that nearly 600,000 tons of plastic waste are produced annually in Cameroon, with only 1% being recycled. This opens up endless opportunities for green entrepreneurship ideas. Speaking about his movement, he stated that it was founded in 2024 and, to date, has collected nearly 2 tons of plastic waste. They sell this waste to Greenpeace, which handles the recycling process.
The lack of funding, limited government support, restricted access to training, and an underdeveloped market structure represent significant challenges for green entrepreneurship in Cameroon. During the visit to the exhibition stands, Mr. Onana demonstrated a green entrepreneurship idea by instantly creating flower pots made from plastic bottles.
A recycling motor network in Cameroon ECOPRENEURS 237 represents a new generation of economic actors—entrepreneurs who place environmental protection at the heart of their activities. Their work spans a wide range of sectors, including recycling, renewable energy, and waste management. This includes recycling of plastic, paper, textiles, and metal; the production of eco-friendly charcoal, compost, and biogas; the promotion of solar energy and improved cookstoves; the creation of natural soaps and cleaning products; transforming waste into paving stones, furniture, or useful objects; as well as urban agriculture, agroecology, permaculture, upcycling, and crafts using recovered materials. It also extends to the marketing of organic or local products, ecotourism, and environmental education.
The ECOPRENEURS 237 Network was established by CECOSDA with the goal of bringing together green project leaders, promoting the sharing of experiences, encouraging innovation, and supporting the development of concrete initiatives.
ECOPRENEURS are not just economic players; they are also social innovators, creators of green jobs, and agents of change within their communities. By supporting their initiatives, the ECOPRENEURS 237 Network helps build a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economy in the face of climate challenges.
A green energy actor in Cameroon Beyond recycling, ECOPRENEURS 237 also positions itself as a strategic player in the energy transition. By supporting projects focused on clean energy sources—such as solar, biogas, and wind, the network promotes local innovation and the adoption of sustainable solutions. These initiatives not only address the energy crisis but also contribute to the fight against climate change, while simultaneously creating new economic opportunities for young people.
Through this approach, CECOSDA emphasizes its commitment to making eco-entrepreneurship a central pillar of both local and national development. The ECOPRENEURS 237 Network thus serves as a space for opportunities, exchanges, and collaboration for all those who wish to pursue innovative entrepreneurship that benefits the planet and future generations.
