On 5 December, 2014 CECOSDA joined the international community to celebrate the Volunteer Day. On this Occasion, CECOSDAinvolved 50 volunteers in a range of initiatives, including clean-up campaigns, sensitization (educative talks and fliers distribution), in order to promote sustainable development and most importantly to highlight the role of volunteers in Cameroon.
VOLUNTEERING WITH CECOSDA
Protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development in Cameroon is a challenge. However, for the Center for Communication and Sustainable for All, there is one role which is key to the success of environmental programs: that of the volunteer. In general, values driving volunteering remain common and universal: a desire to contribute to the common good, out of free will and in a spirit of solidarity, without expectation of material reward. In the field of sustainable development, the role of volunteers has gained international public recognition
Volunteerism appears henceforth as a dynamic and creative resource that can be put at the service of the environment. It is from the above backdrop that the Center for Communication and Sustainable Development for All (CECOSDA), has chosen to set up a Volunteer Program. CECOSDA’s volunteers comprise stars, youths and women of good will, who share and adhere to the values of the organization and dedicate their free time to the protection of the environment. Thus CECOSDA volunteers work hard daily, volunteering their skills, beliefs, time and effort towards a cause they feel strongly about: ensuring a sustainable environment, food security and water resources for all.
The benefits in volunteering for CECOSDA are diverse. Among others, volunteers at CECOSDA have the opportunity to, make Cameroon and the world in general a better place, and in a personal note build and maintain a strong and effective network with the people they meet while working in the field, gain experience and develop their career. Moreover, volunteers reflect and build a bridge between CECOSDA and the community they seek to serve. To recognize volunteers’ efforts, CECOSDA entitle them to an attestation of service at the end of their period of partnership, describing their activities and achievements while working for the organization, thus given them an opportunity to better sell in the job market.
