CECOSDA Cameroon meets and exchange talks with MINEPDED

In its mission of communication for Sustainable development, the Centre for Communication and Sustainable Development for All (CECOSDA) mobilised an important group of volunteers to realise sensitisation activities at PROMOTE 2014.

Beside the objective to help in awakening awareness in PROMOTE‘s entire population on issues concerning the environment and sustainable development, the volunteers mobilisation was also to enhance their knowledge on CECOSDA’s partners, as far as sustainable development is concerned. in this sense, about one hundred CECOSDA’s volunteers were mobilised on Wednesday the 10th of December 2014, to visit the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED) at their stand in PROMOTE 2014.

While receiving the host, KAGONBE Timothée, Sub-Director of Local support and Partnership, made a short presentation on Environmental Degradation and showed several activities being carried out in Cameroon, that promote environmental degradation.  Amongst those activities were bush burning, timber exploitation, and other poor farming methods.

Another aspect of the presentation was about some efficient and low energy consumption cooking systems, that can easily be used for food preparation at home with high precision and more economical. This included solar cookers and wood cooking pots which makes use of just single firewood to prepare food and prevents energy lost to the environment.

The Communication and Programs Supervisor of CECOSDA, André Siegfried MENGOUNG, also presented the NGO’s activities in the domains of sensitization and communication with speciality in Water resources, Environment, and Food security. The talk proceeded to apartnership discussion which eventually will come to a reality.

CECOSDA volunteers then brought-out their knowledge, through a slight sensitisation campaign of visitors and neighbours of MINEPDED stand. The campaign that was about “5 Simple steps to Sustainable Development in Cameroon, was realised through a mouth to mouth strategy, with some brochures presented and sheared, and songs sang. This sensitisation activity that drew the attention of an important population around MINEPDED’s stand was presented as one of the methods of reaching to the entire public and raise their awareness.

It is in this state of delight and knowledge filled that the volunteers departed at the end of the day, haven earned a lot of awareness and sensitization. A good initiative that was totally appreciated by MINEPDED officials and the various visitors.
